Pregnancy massage can benefit the mother and the unborn baby; emotionally and physiologically as the mother undergoes many bodily changes. Massage can also help prepare the mothers body for birth and is thought to help her relax during the 1st stages of labour.
The changes which occur to the mothers’ body can cause increased pressure on joints, ligaments, muscles and organs. This can cause pain and discomfort. Pregnancy massage can help to alleviate these aches and pains as well as relieve stress due to the calming effects if brings. During the massage the unborn baby can also benefit as the mother release the feel good endorphins which are passed onto the baby. Often the baby will become more active, kicking and moving during the massage.
Common areas of aches and pain during pregnancy include; low back and pelvis, legs (due to increased load on the joints), upper back and shoulder.
